Delinquent taxes on properties in Polk County will be offered for sale at the Annual Tax Sale on June 22, 2021.
If you wish to make your payment for delinquent tax through our property tax payment site located at www.IowaTaxAndTags.org, you must complete the online transaction on or before 11:59 PM, June 21st, 2021 to have your property removed from the Annual Tax Sale. The property tax payment site will be offline beginning 12:00 AM on June 22nd, 2021 until the Annual Tax Sale has been completed and balanced. While the site is offline, you will not be able to make payments.
If you wish to hand deliver, mail, or make your payment over the phone for delinquent property tax, you must insure we physically receive it before 5:00 PM on June 21st, 2021 to have your property removed from the Annual Tax Sale.
If your delinquent taxes are sold at the Annual Tax Sale, you will need to make a payment to redeem the tax sale on your property. Please contact the Polk County Treasurer’s Office at (515) 286-3060 for more information concerning payment for delinquent property taxes and the upcoming Annual Tax Sale on June 22, 2021, and what will happen if we receive your payment after the deadlines listed above.
Polk County has changed Real Estate systems, which has resulted in a change to the Tax Year, displayed on the website. The new system utilizes the assessment year whereas the old system uses the payable year. The table below illustrates the tax year change for taxes and special assessments payable in September 2020 and March 2021.
